Me Encanta Scholarship for Hispanic Students
Pursuing a college degree at a college or university would be almost every senior high school student’s dream. They wish to improve what they have learned in high school and taste the higher education experience. However, such a dream does not easily come true as most senior high school students all over the world find a similar difficulty in having a college degree, that is the costly educational expenses. No matter how smart they are, when they have no adequate budget to pay for college expenses, it would be almost impossible to attend a college. The same thing happens to Hispanic students.
In the United States, many Hispanic students are forced to bury their dream of a higher education since they can not provide the financial requirements. That sad fact has moved Richard Castro from El Paso. As a McDonald’s franchisee as well as a former educator, Richard Castro has committed to change this unfortunate situation. He is driven to help young Hispanic students to have a better education through creating a scholarship program. With help from the McDonald’s Corporation and the enormous support from Ronald McDonald House Charities, in 1985 he finally came up with the Me Encanta scholarship program. The scholarship program itself is also known as the RMHC®/HACER® program.
As part of the RMHC® U.S. Scholarship Program, the Me Encanta scholarship program is expected to help Hispanic senior high school students make their dream come true through by providing financial assistance that enables the students to settle their college expenses.
Since the Me Encanta scholarship program is associated to a certain heritage background, the ones who are eligible for this scholarship award are only the students who have at least one Hispanic parent. These days, this scholarship program has been the largest financial assistance program that is geared toward Hispanic students. Over $20 million in scholarships have been awarded to about 14,000 Students with Hispanic heritage since it was first introduced in 1985. It took a $97,000 budget to start the Me Encanta scholarship program and the amount was awarded to a number of senior high school students from different communities. Each of them received $1,000 in scholarship.
To be eligible for this scholarship program, the Hispanic students are required to perform with an excellent academic record. In addition to the academic requirements, they also have to demonstrate financial need as well as being involved in some community activities. Like any other scholarship programs, the Me Encanta scholarship program has a number of requirements which should be met by the applicants. Excellent academic achievement should be manifested by a minimum 2.7 grade point average.
The applicants of this scholarship should be legal U.S. residents besides being students in senior high school. Be sure that you are not 22 years old or older by the time you fill out the application form. The Hispanic students have to be eligible to attend a two-year or four-year college program at a college or university in a full-time manner. The scholarship recipients are also required to attend a college at an accredited institution in the following year of their senior high school graduation.
