What is the Elks Scholarship

What Is The Elks Scholarship

The Elks Scholarship began with the Jolly Corks. The Jolly Corks started as a group of actors and entertainers determined to have fun and at the same time, avoid a New York Excise tax in 1867. The Jolly Corks got their name from their strict mind-set on having fun and with a clever trick they performed that included corks and resulted in winning rounds of drinks.
The Elks National Foundation provides more than $3.65 million in scholarships each year.

The Elk Scholarships are for undergraduate studies only. A student is not able to receive more than one Elks Scholarship award or grant in any one academic year.
The Elks Scholarships awards may be used for the cost of attendance expenses. In order to receive the payment, the student must send the completed verification of enrollment form, then a check will be payable and mailed directly to the school to establish a credit fort that student. The Elks Scholarship foundation will notify the student when a check has been sent. A time frame of 4-6 weeks must be allowed after the date the check was mailed.

If a student terminates his or her course for any reason, the unused, balance must be returned directly to Elks Scholarship Foundations Chicago office. The Elks Scholarships are not transferable and may not be paid directly to the student.

There are no loan programs, vocational grants, or assistance for a graduate study and the Elks Scholarship Foundation does not maintain a mailing list.
